By Raúl Gorrín.- Work is definitely a blessing that allows
man to extent his full potential, both to guarantee his subsistence, and to
show and develop his talents and abilities. At work, the human being gives the
best of himself and for this he prepares from his earliest years studying and
training in some office, vocation or profession. However, you should know the
difference between “to give the best of you”, “accomplish the working
responsibility” and “to become a workaholic” by forgetting about the rest of
the activities and commitments to themselves, the family and society.
For
workaholics, work is the center of their lives and can’t resist working even if
it is not at their office. They abandon any other activity and commitment
established because of work. The workaholic cares little about what their loved
ones feel to get to work after hours and leave the spaces for family and
personal well-being.
How to
identify a workaholic? The first thing is to realize that work begins to be the
center of everything and workaholics forget about themselves. The mind is
concerned about work and what needs to be done, it is impossible to focus on
other activities.
There are
three symptoms about workaholics, just take a look:
1.
Difficulty to relax: they can’t sleep at night or relax. They keep it
altered and tense. Workaholic can‘t change their attitude even when they are resting.
The work dominates everything in their lives and their conversations are
exclusively about what happens at work.
2.
Control everything: they need to control every situation, circumstance
and so on. Also, they are emotionally uncontrollable when they feel that
something goes out of the way that they consider should follow the events.
3.
Easily identifiable: because it is difficult for them to relate outside
the workplace. They have great difficulty in establishing links with people
outside their workplace, they are isolated persons.
Moreover, for
workaholics, success is only for those that achieved their goals at workplace
and the performance and productivity of the work monopolizes their aspirations.
These people avoid personal problems, the affectivity with other people and any
other situation that is located outside the office or company. In addition, workaholics
are formed by the high competitiveness in some companies want to achieve figuration
and they do anything to become notorious as professionals.
Likewise,
the excessive ambition can lead them to become obsessed increasing in the
organizational pyramid and for that they are capable of whatever. They lack of uncertainties
and scruples to be at the top positions inside the organizations. They lack of
order and are unable to complete their tasks in the established timetables.
