Mediation is used as a tool for conflict resolution

By Raúl Gorrín.-  In times of transformations, it is inevitable that inconveniences and conflicts arise inside organizations. In the case of healthy organizations (which emotional control rules and relationships are worked under the parameters posed by positive organizational psychology) the resolution of conflicts is achieved through mediation.

Mediation is a necessary resource for prevention and intervention in conflict management, which contributes to the creation of healthy companies and organizations. But how does business mediation contribute to the creation of healthy environments? The first thing to emphasize is that mediation focuses on conflict as something positive, it leaves aside its negative categorization and understands it as an opportunity to progress, to move forward and also, mediation is presented as a tool that contributes to adaptation to change.

In addition, through mediation you stop thinking about the problems, you start thinking about to focus on solutions. There is no pleasure in the inconvenience or stumbling, but the focus is towards the positive and solution. Change is about understanding and attending creatively, always having communication as an important element which listening (also) is important.

The dialogue, stress reduction, and collaboration are central to this positive vision. This approach understands that in conflict, resolution can win (all the parts). The company works towards the psychological well being of workers and their happiness. In emotionally healthy organizations, social responsibility is maximized and a prime goal. Mediation is, therefore, an effective tool to minimize conflict within organizations.
