Don’t confuse responsibility with work addiction

By Raúl Gorrín.-  The performances of duty are behaviors that should be highly appreciated in every worker. To accomplish the functions entrusted, to give the best yes, to do it well and in good way, to be punctual in the schedules, proactive, all that is very well. The bad thing is to go beyond the limits and confuse responsibility with work addiction. The second is paranoia, because the person can put the work activities above the personal ones. These individuals turn work into the central activity of their lives. Those who have this condition are known as workaholics.

For workaholics, work overtime is a temptation that they can’t resist, invading their family life with work activity and even their personal well being. How to recognize a workaholic? A workaholic is a person who can’t get out of their head their duties even when they are out of their office. Likewise, a workaholic has trouble with relaxing, has trouble with sleeping at night, they kept upset and tense. For them, it is impossible to change their attitude.

In addition, workaholics need to have the control over all situations, schedules and time limit. Anything that disturbs their work, take them out of their squares and completely loses control. They are not capable to control their emotions. Their friendships are practically confined to the relationships that they maintain at work. They are isolated and unsociable people.

What leads these people to be workaholics? One of the main causes is the high competitiveness that triumphs in some sectors or work areas. These workers do anything to escalate positions at their work. They suffer from excessive ambition by desires for power. So pay attention to these characteristics, don’t be a workaholic.
