Gorrín.- Your performance as a
freelancer professional requires you to be clear about certain aspects such as:
your fees and costs; a matter that is not always easy to determine. The value
of your work and your work, can be more complicated than you think and tend to
charge less than you deserve as a specialist in the area where you are about to
perform, especially for the young people it is difficult to assess their work;
the tendency is to be towards the underestimation of their experience. We are
going to show you some tips to calculate your rate as a professional freelancer:
1.
Conduct market research: It
is necessary that you determine how much the rest of the professionals who
provide your service in the market charge and compare it with your income
aspirations based on your experience and knowledge, it is important to remember
that not all jobs are the same.
2.
Work according to your needs: However, keep in mind that we are not telling you to charge exactly the
same as others charge. You have to take into account your lifestyle, so you
need to determine how much money you need to earn to live comfortably.
3.
Make the necessary adjustments on the way: Usually freelancer doesn’t know how much to charge,
nor do customers know how much to pay, therefore it is possible that at first
the tariffs that you handle are not adequate, so as time goes by and complies with different contracts, you will
make the relevant adjustments in your rates.
4.
Increase your rates: The
experience will dictate to you how much the right amount for your work is and the
same is adapted to what dictates the market, of course, this won’t mean that
you should remain forever charging the same rate and the time will come when you
should increase what you charge for your services. These adjustments should be made based on inflation rates,
experience, acquired skills, reputation and prestige.
5.
Learn to say no: When
a customer disagrees with your rate, it is possible for you to make some
adjustments, but this doesn’t always have to be the case, you have to learn to
determine when to give in to make a rebate and when not to. So, you simply have to learn to say no when you feel that you can’t
underestimate your work to the extreme of taking your rates to extremes that
don’t correspond with your skills, experience, knowledge and prestige.
6.
On what criteria to set their rates: When determining the amount of your rates it is
essential that you define whether you will do it by hour, per day or per
project. Surely each project should
be analyzed to establish what element should be deprived to establish its fee
rate.
7.
Stand firm: After you
have set your rate, it is important that you maintain it. Many freelancers
often give in to customer pressures at the first sign of conflict over the
moment. Doing it can set a precedent
in your relationship with the customer, who may fall into the temptation of
wanting to govern your business relationship with you on the basis of blackmail
and undue pressure to readjust your service fees.
